PROJECT SPACE WOLVES - WIP, PICs and a WG Battle Leader Done

There it is. The army I'm taking to C4, Unless things change, which they will. I'm holding off on the Wolf guard Until I can get me hands on a Terminator Box. I would kit bash but I think the expense will be worth it. I would probably drop the pred and a dread for them. The only thing I consider finished is the wolf guard battle leader. Pics below

Hoping to finish this soon. Added some extreme highlighting. Needs a wash but should come up good.
I used beast man regiment pieces on a bunch grey hunters and the dreads to dress them up

Marines are sprayed with chaos black, then under coated in Necron abyss, then shadow grey and finally highlights in space wolf grey followed by a Delvan Mud wash.
Here you can see more beast man pieces
And now the Wolf Guard Battle Leader

The snow is done using white paint and Gale Force 9 snow.

Question: Once you hack a bunch of dwarves to peices, what do you do with the bodies?

Yes, 1 box of these bad boys is on my shopping list to spruce up my space wolves with axes, shields and maybe hammers, just like something I saw in White dwarf a while back. This army has always been more about making something that looks awesome (Pics soon, Maybe tomorrow night if all goes well), rather than just trying to get something for a tourney done on time.

Anyone know of another box that might be good for this? What can I do with a bunch of dwarf bodies? I'm thinking of keeping them to decorate bases of my Khorne Daemons when I build them, I'm open to suggestions.

and heres the Wednessday top 10 that I kind of sort of do.

TOP 10 PROJECTS TO FINISH
This is just a little list of 10 projects I'm hoping to finish,Eventually, in no particular order, which goes to 12.

1. Red Skulls - Space Marines - Second company nearly finished. 6 Dreadnoughts done, multiple HQ's, 10 Stern Guard, 5 Scouts finished, 30 Termies in varying stages

2. Space Wolves - Taking my Time. C4 list (1500 Points) is almost assembled. Spending a lot of time painting it to get it right.

3. Cadian 634th Desert Company - Needs more tanks and Valks. This will be a long term project.

4. Warhound Titan - Its assembled, to a degree where I can put it on the table and you know what it is. Its been this way for about 6 months. Really should finish it but other thing get in the way.

5. Blood Angels - My red skulls are painted in thier colors. Now I just need to finish my death company and probably get my hands on Dante, a couple of Baal Preds and a couple of furiosos. Maybe more assault marines, it really depends on the dex.

6. Red Skulls, The Fall to Khorne - Yes my red skulls are going to give into their rage and fall to the blood god. Thinking of getting this army ready for next years BIV as a follow up to taking a battle company this year.

7. Orks, The Blazing Skulls Clan- This is something so appealing to my about an infantry heavy force of sneaky pyromaniac Orks. Plenty of Nobz, Boyz and Komandos. This will take a while. And green is a nice break from all the red.

8. Khorne Daemons - This is another project that has grabbed me. I'm hoping to get my hands on a blood Thirster for my CSM army later this year, should be good.

9. WFB The Empire - I love the idea of taking a gun to a knife fight. It sill depend on whats happening around the time of the new release, guess we'll see.

10. Tau - I love gun lines. And rail Guns. And Crisis Suits. Might wait for the next dex though.

11. Scratch built Reaver Titan - If I ever get my Warhound finished

12. Grey Knights - This is another maybe army. Maybe just a small force. 1500 points or so.

Project Space Wolves - The Plan

Firstly I will try to get some more photos of the army. Just haven't got to it yet. Secondly I discovered the list I want to take is 15 points over limit. So here is my new take on it. I've also tried to give an insight into my thought process

HQ
Wolf Guard Battle Leader - Terminator Armour, Combi Plasma, Chain Fist, Saga of the Beast Slayer- 140 Points

I have never been a fan of expensive HQ's. I would rather skimp on the HQ and buy another unit. My tactics generally revolve around disrupting and then overwhelming an opponent rather than just charging my biggest guy against my opponents. Wolf guard battle leaders are a little squishy but are the best value for money

TROOPS
1st Grey Hunters - 10 Man - 2 x Melta Guns - 160 Points
Drop Pod - 35 Points

2nd Grey Hunters - 10 Man - 2 x Plasma Guns - 170 Points
Drop Pod - 35 Points

3rd Grey Hunters - 10 Man - 2 x Melta Guns, Power Fist - 185 Points

4th Grey Hunters - 10 Man - 2 x Plasma Guns - 170 Points

Grey hunters are really the only viable troops choice in the SW codex. Blood claws are to unreliable. By taking 40 grey hunters I should have the volume of fire I need. The drop pods are there for Fluff(Ragnar Blackmane's Great Company) and disruption. I do not expect the first unit I drop to live, that is why I now have 4. Their job is to drop down, kill something and then have the opponent shoot them so that the rest of the army can advance.

As for the lack of CCW's this stems from my experiences with Stern Guard. I have run a power fist in my DP Stern Guard for about 6 months and it has never done a thing. It just seems like a waste of points for a suicide unit. Also if my Grey hunters get charged they get 3 attacks each.
30 Attacks, 15 Hits, 7.5 Wounds, 2 Dead Marines. I also want to try out wolf standards but decided to leave that for the next list.

As for the specific Units
1st - Drop early, Pop a tank, Then die or charge something else
2nd - Drop late, take out a troops choice/Problem unit, capture objective.
3rd - Run in the land raider with the HQ, charge something
4th - Defense, support the armor, hold home objective

ELITES
Dreadnought - Assault Cannon, CCW, Heavy Flamer - 115 Points

Dreadnought - Assault Cannon, CCW, Heavy Flamer - 115 Points

I have said this plenty of times. I love dreadnought. I rarely play an army with out 2. in terms of load outs I find Twin linked Las/Missile to be my most common choice. I do also like a pair of twin linked auto cannons. Multi melta's are a little hit and miss, Plasma cannons are great but for some reason I hardly ever use them. My assault cannon dreads are there to be an infantry killer, the range is a little low and a plasma cannon would be better but I like the 4 shots.

The CCW and heavy flamer are there for fluff and some horde protection.

HEAVY SUPPORT
Predator - Auto Cannon, Las Cannon Sponsons - 120 Points

This is my main tank hunter. It should also work against MC's. It is also slightly fluffy since SW's were the first ones to put las Cannons on predators.

Land Raider Crusader - 250 Points

The optimal configuration would feature a storm bolter and multi melta. This is firstly a distraction. Land Raiders are notorious bullet magnets. The second use in troop killer. Drop the troops and go on a rampage of ramming and fire storms. once again slightly fluffy.

OTHER NOTES
I am generally not a huge fan of Wolf Guard. I do intend to use some, sometime, but at the moment I'm sticking with more familiar territories. Thunder Wolf Cav would be nice but I don't have time to model them. As for Rhino's I'm going off them in general. They're to fragile and slow.

Gosford Shield Results AND Project Update

Saturday for me was one of those days. After arriving a little early at Gosford hobbies I found it wasn't yet open and I was the first to arrive. So I sat down to read the players pack. I then realised the tournament was at the Central Coast Corsairs in Tuggerah. So quick phone call and a $35 cab ride later I arrived at the correct venue with 10 minutes to spare before round 1.

I then set up my army ready to take some shots only to realize I hadn't charged my camera. No photos.

But on with the battles

Round 1 VS Eldar
Kill Points, Pitched Battle

Unfortunately I had the tools for the job and scored a clear victory

Round 2 VS Imperial Guard
2 objectives DOW

Once again I had the tools I needed. Dreadnoughts soaked up fire, Whirl Wind and Predator laid down fire, and then the marines could assault every thing.

Clear Victory

Round 3 VS Space Marines
5 Objectives, Pitched Battle

He had the tools. 21 Bikers, 2 Preds and a Whirl Wind. I deployed badly and it was all over. It wasn't till after the game I learnt that bikers can't move up levels.

Got Wiped out

Round 4 VS Chaos
4 Objectives, Spear Head.

If this game ended turn 5 it would have been a draw. However on turn 6 I maned to claim 2 addition objectives.

Clear Victory

RESULT
9th Place from 33
Battle - 44 out of possible 60.
Sports - 14 out of Possile 15.
Composition - 7 out of Possible 15
Paint - 7 out of possible 8

Overall quite happy

PROJECT UPDATE
It now looks like I'm taking Space Wolves for their first outing at the Central Coast Corsairs Cup (C4).

The army is assembled. But I'm not happy with 1 biker.

At present the list is

HQ
Wolf Guard Battle Leader - Bike, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield

TROOPS
10 Grey Hunters - 2 x Melta Guns
Drop Pod

10 Grey Hunters - 2 x Plasma Guns
Drop Pod

10 Grey Hunters - 2 x Melta Guns, Power Fist

ELITES

Dreadnought - Twin Linked Auto Cannon, CCW, Heavy Flamer

FAST ATTACK
5 Swift Claws - Power Fist, Flamer

History
Once of origins unknown it now appears that the original Red Skulls were a number of grizzled veterans who were given up for lost on a world corrupted by Chaos. For nearly 20 years they fought a guerrilla war. Sabotage, ambush, salvage and survival, this was their life. The survivors eventually stole a shuttle and escaped only to be accused of corruption. They separated from the Imperial Fists as to not disgrace their founding chapter and painted their armor blood red in remembrance of the brothers they lost.

Eventually they settled on the death world of Golgotha. A hot and hostile planet. Although allowed to live by the inquisition they continue to be untrusted and are only called upon for the most suicidal of missions.

More recently they have undergone further investigation by the inquisition after rumors the Red Skulls Chief Chaplain Markus Grey recruited the survivors of a penal legion who fought beside his chapter.

Notable Red Skulls
Chapter Master Augustus Grant - Who wields a mighty relic blade and storm shield.
Chief Chaplain Markus Grey - A fierce figure in terminator armor
Chief Librarian Maximilian Angelus - Known as the daemon slayer.
2nd Company Captain Johan Casidus - a mighty swordsman and expert marksman

High Lords of Terra - Early Thoughts

As some of you may know my 2nd place at coastal assault was enough to qualify me for the HLOT invitational. Most of the time when approaching a tournament I consider alot of things, composition score, players I know who are going, grudge matches, cost to build, time to paint.

Over the Christmas break I have managed to get well ahead on my painting. I also have no very little spare cash due to my impending nuptials and honeymoon. I know who is playing. The top 10% of Australia and New Zealand.

I have 3 options. Run the hardest list I can and try to surprise some veterans, Run something soft and fun or try to balance everything out.

The blurry picture above is my attempt at a hard marine list based on what I have on hand.

Armored Spearhead - 1750 Points
HQ
Librarian - Terminator, Storm Shield, Avenger, Null Zone

Troops
Tactical Squad - Flamer, Heavy Bolter
Rhino
Tactical Squad - Flamer, Heavy Bolter
Rhino

PROJECT SPACEWOLVES REOPENED

As some of you may know this year is a busy one for me. Firstly I work in IT at a place that takes about an hour and a half to get to and I'm getting married in 5 weeks.

As far as the war dollies go this year I am aiming for
- at least 4 tournaments - Gosford Shield, BIV, MOB, Lords of Terra
- 3 Leagues - Going to have to skip Q1
- Finish Marines, SW, Guard, BA Armies and maybe try to start 40K Orks and WFB Empire. I May also try out what ever the fabled second marine release is.

My BIV army is finished. Kind of. I'm still debating a list change but think I have made up my mind, might need testing. My Gosford shield army is done. For my LOT army for July I have 5 termies, 2 Vinicators and a Land Raider to finish. MOAB is more than 7 months off.

1 Tournament I didn't see my self playing in is C4. Mainly because I had only heard of it recently. It just appeared on my local clubs message board as being in my home town, at a time I seem to be free. So I figured I might as well try to get some Space Wolves ready for it.

I had a long talk about the dex with our club leader Damien on Friday night over a few beers. I've been thinking that I am taking the wrong approach to the army. So I decided to think about it in relation to the Space Marines and Blood Angel Codex's which I am fairly familiar with and even the Black Templar, Chaos and Dark Angels Codex's which I am less familiar with.

The next consideration is that I have little money to make this work.

1500 Points Light Attack Force
HQ
Wolf Guard Battle Leader - Terminator, Chain Fist, Combi Plasma - 140 Points

Elites
Dreadnought - Twin Linked Auto Cannon, Heavy Flamer -125
Wolf Scouts -5 Man, Melta Gun - 85 Points
Wolf Guard
- Combi Melta, Power Fist - 43 Points

Gosford Shield Army List - 1250 - In Detail

Well there it is. Unfortunately recent rain has meant I haven't been able to open the garage door when taking photos.

Red Skulls Chapter - Light Infantry Force

HQ
Librarian - Bolt Pistol, Force Weapon, Avenger, Gate of Infinity - The best value for points HQ. A little fragile at times. Avenger should add to the horde control while Gate will allow a little more mobility

TROOPS
Tactical Squad - sgt w/Bolt Pistol and Chainsword, Flamer, Heavy Bolter
Rhino

Tactical Squad - sgt w/Bolt Pistol and Chainsword, Flamer, Heavy Bolter
Rhino

Tactical Squad - sgt w/Bolt Pistol and Chainsword, Flamer, Missile Launcher

Tactical Squad - sgt w/Bolt Pistol and Chainsword, Flamer, Missile Launcher

I love tactical squads. Deadly, Flexible, tough as nails. I've found that plasma and melta do little unless used in bulk and even then its questionable. I also noticed that I had trouble against Orks at Coastal Assault so I'm hoping the 4 flamers will make a difference.

ELITES
Dreadnought - Multimelta, CCW, Storm Bolter

Dreadnought - Multimelta, CCW, Heavy Flamer

I love Dreads. I own 8. It is hard for me to create a list with out at least 2. Mobile heavy weapons in a sturdy package with a @#$%-OFF CCW.

HEAVY SUPPORT
Predator - Auto Cannon, Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Storm Bolter - 10 Shot pill box, MC and horde control

Whirl Wind - I usually go with a thunder fire but decided to go for mobility and indirect fire over multiple ammo types

Also shown, Commisar Lord w/ Plasma Pistol and Power Fist for the Saving Private Ryan mission

Battle in the Vines Army Preview - Taking a Battle Company

Here is a quick pic of the Battle company I am planning on taking to Battle In The Vines this year
I don't remember how this idea came about, if it was a bet, a dare or just a bunch of us in the car on the way home from last years BIV talking about how cool it would be.

May change it a little but at present

Captain - Bolt Gun, Lightning Claw

Tactical Squad - Flamer, Missile Launcher
Tactical Squad - Flamer, Missile Launcher
Tactical Squad - Flamer, Heavy Bolter
Tactical Squad - Flamer, Heavy Bolter
Tactical Squad - Plasma Gun, Heavy Bolter
Tactical Squad - Melta Gun, Multi Melta

Assault Squad - 10 Man, Melta Bombs
Assault Squad - 10 Man, Melta Bombs

Devestator Squad - 10 Man, 4 x Missile Launcher
Devestator Squad - 10 Man, 2 x Missile Launcher, 2 x Multi Melta

The biggest challange will be going the whole tournament without singing
101 marines on the board,
101 Marines,
You shoot 1 down,
he falls to the ground
100 red marines on the board.....

Terrain - I Love Lego

Here are a couple of quick picks of some terrain I donated to the local club in preperation for the Coastal Assault tournament.

First up, Ruined and reinforced Comms tower, Made from plasticard, lego, wood glue, plastic glue, sand and rocks. Each level is big enought for a marine to fit under. The bottom dome wall could easily cover most larger models

Next the Make shift fort. More lego and left over dozer blades along with a GW accessory kit.

This was my first piece of terrain, The Pumping Station. Nice big tower, Broken walls and a pipe big enough to hide a marine.

Made from lego, a soda bottle, a ping pong ball and a cardboard tube
