Looks like a very hard list, I certainly wouldn't want to face it.

Why not a Rune Priest instead of the WG BL, it seems like he is just there to fill the HQ slot so for basically the same points why not get some psychic defence, I'm sure one of the razor squads could go without a PF.
Also, why the empty razor? You could use the points to change the whirlwind into another predator, or a speeder squadron, maybe with some MM for dealing with LR (one melta in a squad is not going to reliably kill AV14). You could even do a straight swap for a 50 pt speeder with a HB or HF, hide or reserve it and use it for last minute objective grabbing. I have a pair of HF speeders which are usually exculsively used for that (also, the HF can clear out any annoying objective squattors like pathfinders)
Just some thoughts, the list looks like it would perform very well anyways.
You make a good point. A rune priest would be better for that slot.
ReplyDeleteThe empty razor is because I had 50ish points left could add an extra piece of armor, its 5 shots for 50 points 3 of which are twin linked, and a back up for stranded infantry. The idea being to create an unbreakable wall of fire. Also it give the opponent something else to shoot at.
The WW is there to ignore cover something I find invaluable against the kind of armies this list would have difficulty against such as orks.
I am a little iffy on speeders mainly because I think they are one of the worst models in the codex to put together.
Actually thinking of ditching the HB sponsons and the empty razor for a Landspeeder typhoon may be more effective and easier on the wallet.
ReplyDeleteThe other thing to consider with the 50 pts would be to give Mark of the Wulfen to some GH squads. At 10 pts its probably the most cost effective way of giving a combat boost to GH which may be useful as ur squads are pretty small.
ReplyDeleteI run a auto pred with a SB for 70 pts because I love autocannons and its a really cheap way to get one, also it gives me an AV13 wall I can throw in front of my Rhinos if necessary, and its cheap enough that I don't care if it dies. I also like it as a configuration as it can always move 6 without losing any shooting, however, the HB sponsons do add quite alot of firepower for not many points and seem to be a popular choice.
The WW is probably fine, although I don't think you need worry much about horde orks, GH are ace against them. Even if you get charged you will go first, counter-attack, and therefore kill a fair number of orks before they even get a chance. Of course, you will lose a few to a PK nob but there isn't much you can do about that! The WW would of course be very handy vs lootas and grots in cover though.
I am considering taking the heavy bolters off to save points and keep the unit mobile. But when you need to hold the line 10 shots for 95 points is pretty amazing
ReplyDeleteI hoping I don't need the extra combat ability from mark of wolfen, definely going for shooty w/ counter assault over assaulty.
WW is a wonderfull machine. As you say perfect for entrenched infantry. Also may need to do this list with what I have on hand, not much spare cash at the moment so that may dictate my list.
I'll have to finalise in a week so that I can get it painted in time, Expect WiP this weekend. I get Monday off for ANZAC day so good chance to get some painting done.
