Blood Angels

At this point I'm hoping for an army completely comprised of Jump Infantry, bikes and and drop podding Stern Guard and Dreads. I have 20 Assault marines ready, another 10 in pieces.

Aurora Chapter
Scrapped for now. My change to an Iron Hands army w/ tactical squads backed up by multiple thunder fires.

Black Templars
I have 30 Scouts, 30 Terminators and 40 space marines sitting around so this is a possibility

Red Skulls (Khorne Chaos Space Marines)
I have 16 berzerkers, kharne and a daemon prince assembled. Need more zerkers and some rhinos, maybe a blood thirster. I would also like 3 defilers. Big scary chaos armies.

Mentor Legion
I have a number of terminators set asside in case they ever re-release Dark angels.

634th Cadian Desert force
pending cash to buy tanks. Going for armor heavy. Valks, Sentinels, Ruses, Artillery, chimeras.
Army I want will cost me around $800 AU and have 18 pieces of armor at 2000 points.

Other armies I want to persue
- Khorne Deamons
- Blazing Skull Orks - Sneaky Pyromaniacs
- Tau infantry heavy force
- Daemon Hunters
- Thousand Sons

Priority
Space Wolves for end of May
Space Wolves or Blood Angels for July

ARMY LIST ANALYSIS
HQ
Librarian - One trick pony, Cheap, Drops, Flames, Tries to port, Dies. Looking for an alternative

TROOPS
Tactical Squad - Flamer, Missile - Missile was ineffective, flamer was ok
Rhino - did its job
Tactical Squad - Flamer, Missile - Missile was ineffective, flamer was ok
Rhino - did its job
Tactical Squad - Flamer, Missile - Missile was ineffective, flamer was ok

Will be switching to space wolves with a new model in mind

ELITES
Dreadnought - Multi Melta, CCW, Storm Bolter - Missed the flamer. Multi Melta was ok but not game breaking

Dreadnought - Plasma Cannon, CCW, Storm Bolter - Would have been better with a Twin-Linked Auto cannon. I didn't face any 3+ infantry all day, Plasma cannon mainly took out light tanks and walkers

Heavy Support
Whirl Wind - Moments of goodness, not greatness
Predator - Auto Cannon, Heavy Bolters, Storm Bolter - Was ok, Las cannons would have been better.
Thunder Fire Cannon - Awesome. Seemed to be able to consistently deliver 20+ wounds a turn, and in one turn managed to do 35 Wounds.

Although I will miss the thunder fire I am hoping that the increased effectiveness of basic infantry in my Space Wolves list will make up for it. I know I promised more detail and more photos but a lack of sleep and a need to concentrate on the game at hand made that difficult.

4 Weeks till Battle in the Vines in the town of Greta in the Hunter Valley Region of NSW. Army is painted, Magnetized and ready to go. 7 Weeks after that is the Good Games Gosford Tournament where I hope to debut my space wolves.

Space Wolf Codex VS Marine Codex

Last night I was asked an interesting question. "You already have a marine army, so why make a separate Space Wolf Army?"

Lets look at the basic building blocks I use for a marine list and compare those to the SW one

HQ's

Captain Vs Wolf Lord - Comparable. Very similar
Captain Vs Wolf Guard Battle Leader - 40 Points cheaper. But no invul. But I can give him a storm shield. 1 point to space wolves

Librarian Vs Rune Priest - I may cop flack for this but I like the librarian alot more

ELITES
Wolf Guard VS Terminators - Wolf guard are more flexible, cheaper and all round better
Wolf Guard VS Stern Guard - Stern guard by a mile. Their special issue ammo gives them an edge

TROOPS
Tactical Squad Vs Grey Hunters - GH are cheaper, have more attacks, can take wolf standards and have a second, free, special weapon. Tactical Squads have higher leadership, get a heavy weapon and can combat squad. For my style of play the combat squadding and heavy weapon don't add much. I rarely use either, Grey Hunters all over

The rest of the dex is either very similar or add ons that will only work if you have these basic building blocks in place.

So why take the Space Marine Codex?

1. Stern Guard - Flexible, reliable and deadly
2. Thunder Fire Cannon - I love this unit. Again flexible and deadly

And now I start to struggle. I'm really starting to think my days of using the marine dex are at an end. Let me know your thoughts.

10 Minute Noob Guide to Space Wolves

here are my quick picks out the dex.

HQ
Wolf Guard Battle leaders - under priced by about 15 points. Easy to use, good all round choice, best of the bunch

Wolf Priest - I can see potential

Rune Priest - I haven't seen as many of these around as I'd expect. I haven't tried one yet because of the amount of people who think they are over powered.

Logan Grimnar - I like the idea of wolf wing in games of about 2000 points plus but I think they lack the bodies they need to survive the wound generator list being played in my local area.

Elites
Dreadnoughts - Still giving good support and anti tank. The ability to move and shoot puts this on a par with the Predator.

Wolf Guard - This is a min or max choice. Either a handful for controlling troops or as I am in the LOT list to get a Land Raider as a transport or go for a multiple of 5 for the assault cannons, heavy flamers and cyclone missile launchers.

Wolf Scouts - I love the idea, I just haven't found a way to squeeze them in yet.

TROOPS
Grey Hunters - Pure awesome. 2 Special weapons (1 free), Wolf standards are great, and you can attach wolf guard. I have 50 in the works, will probably end up with 60 before I call this army finished.

Blood Claws - Its not that they're bad, it just that grey hunters are better and cost the same points.

Rhino - You will need to be able to transport 10 men. razors are better for C:SM, rhinos for C:SW

Drop Pod - Get your men in the thick of it. You have counter attack and a wolf standard so getting assaulted is not always a bad thing.

FAST ATTACK
I am not a fan of fast attack for marines, I either do it big (C:BA) or not at all.
Swift claws and Sky claws are ok, but I'm saving mine till I see the BA Dex.
I'm still not a fan of land speeders either.

HEAVY SUPPORT
Long Fangs - Love the shooting at 2 targets, the only draw back is the lack of bullet catchers.

Predator - Love them
Vindicator - Still under priced by about 40 points
Land raiders - Bullet Magnets. make a great distraction.

IF I WAS STARTING AGAIN FROM SCRATCH
this would be my shopping list
5 SW Terminators
5 x SW Boxes.
3 x Rhinos
1 x Land Raider
2 x Vindicators
2 x Dreadnoughts

This would give you 2000 points. and a good mix of anti Horde, Anti MC/Heavy Infantry and anti tank.

And now an Aroura Chapter Test Mini. Shoulder trim color vary's depending on what you read. Some say black, some say the same a ultra marines. I went with white. I think it works better.
I tried orange on the gun but it looked like it should have "Nerf" written on it. Grey seems to work.
